Nathan Stockwell-Velazquez

Instructor

Nathan Stockwell-Velazquez was born in Boston, Massachusetts and since the age of 4 has been involved in the world of dance.

Nathan began his formal dance training in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz at the age of 4 and continued to train with the Topf Center For Dance Education until the age of 14, exploring various styles of dance, such as Tap, Hip Hop, Afican, and Latin American cultural dances.

From the age of 14 to 18, Nathan attended Boston Arts Academy with a focus in dance. Every day, he would take dance classes with on-faculty dance instructions as well as resident artists from around the world. He has performed pieces from the Jose Limon Dance Company, Romanian National Ballet Company, and the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange to name a few and from extinguished dancers, such as Ronald K. Brown and Bill T. Jones. He attended summer dance trainings with the Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre in Cambridge and attended the World Ballet Competition in Orlando, Florida as a youth instructor.

Along, with his training in Ballet, Modern, African, Jazz, and Tap he helped start the Latin Dance club at Boston Arts Academy, where his interest in to the world of Latin Dance flourished.

Beginning in the fall of 2004, Nathan became a part of the Semi-Pro Teen Performance Group for the Rumba Y Timbal Salsa Dance Company. He participated and performed in Salsa Congresses in various states in the United States, as well as internationally in Canada and Latin America. Through Latin dance, he discovered his passion fro not only dancing, but teaching as well.

Nathan continued his dance training in college; he attended Hamilton College as a Dance and Communication Major. At Hamilton, Nathan started his own Salsa club to give students a taste of the world he had grown to love. To further expand the community’s interest in the world of dance, he wrote and choreographed a thesis on Dance as a Form of Communication, using dance as an outlet for one to express their emotions.

After completing college with Dance honors, Nathan returned to Boston and continued to teach dance to all ages to give everyone a place where they not only felt safe, but could be free and comfortable with themselves while dancing. His personal mission is to create a fun atmosphere on the dance floor where anyone can flourish and be happy.
