A love of expression and music drew both Matt and Desirae to dance, and in particular, improvisational west coast swing dance. They met on the dance floor in 2013 and discovered that, while neither had any formal dance training prior to adulthood, they each had intense drive to improve themselves in West Coast Swing musically, athletically, and as motivators for one another. Avid students in the dance, they have competed and trained on the World Swing Dance Council’s international circuit for the past two years and counting. They learn voraciously, because West Coast Swing Dance is always growing. They dance wherever they can, because we are all one community.
As a dance partnership, Matt & Desirae are most passionate about being encouragers and innovators within their social and competitive dance community, while never sacrificing the defining essences of the dance. They work alongside others in the community who are adamant about growing their dance each and every day, dance by dance, drill by drill, raising the bar through inclusivity and inspiration.
Outside of dance, Desirae has been training children and adults to make positive changes in their lives for over a decade as a health education specialist and researcher in the public health field. She is a Director of Program Services at an international prevention nonprofit and an MBA student at Northeastern University. Matt has studied chemical biology and nutrition at Brandeis University for the past four years and is adamant about correct information helping to evolve individuals’ lives and choices. He is a musician and, among many other instruments, has played the trumpet for over a decade.
