Make Your Parent Dance Special

Planning a wedding is time consuming and tedious. It’s no wonder parent dances often end up low on the to-do list. However, it isn’t just a dance. It’s a moment your parents have been thinking about since you were a child. So, make it special!

Allow the performance to highlight the relationship that you have with your mom/dad.

Are you fun and silly together? Then, maybe an upbeat and nontraditional performance is the route you’ll want to take.

However, if you want to honor the tender and compassionate side of your relationship then a slower more traditional routine will work best.

In our experience, father-daughter duos love to incorporate both styles into their performance. They start out with a slow-paced dance…

and transition into a high energy routine.

Once you’ve chosen the tempo and style of dance that you’d like to perform then you can pick your song.

The best and most important advice we can give you about music is to LISTEN TO THE LYRICS. Many slow songs are written for romantic partners and their messages aren’t fit for your mom/dad. Instead, tunes like, “I Loved Her First” by Heartland, “Child of Mine” by Carol King and “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder work great.

After you choose a song then it’s time to learn the moves!

Hopefully, you and your fiancé are already taking lessons for your first dance. If that’s the case, then you’ll want to start scheduling a few classes with your mom/dad as well. A handful of lessons will give your mom/dad the confidence they need to truly enjoy the moment that they’ve been waiting for.

After all, there is no greater love than that of a parent. So, spend some time on this wedding detail because it’s a moment you’ll cherish forever!
